Today we are here to talk about ways how to wear Oxfords with dresses. There are two main types of oxfords shoes to choose from: Cap-toe Oxfords and Brogue Oxfords. Understanding the differences between these two patterns can help you make your decision easier.
Cap-toe oxfords were first seen in the early 1800s and feature a more defined toe cap, also called a vamp. They are typically made from higher quality leather, such as calfskin or pigskin, and often have a bit more of an elegant touch to them than brogues. Brogues are known as being made from tanned ox hide and feature square toe caps and thick, stitched soles. Both are extremely comfortable to wear, but brogues tend to be a bit more casual than cap-toes.
Both can easily be worn with a dress, but there are some key differences to keep in mind when wearing them. For instance, if you are wearing a dress with brogues, it is best to keep the rest of your outfit relatively simple so as not to take away from the pattern.
Cap-toe oxford shoes are perfect for weddings, black tie events and other special occasions as a general rule. They are also more formal than brogues and can be paired with a dress and jacket for a night out on the town. Brogues can be worn with nearly any type of outfit, from nice evening dresses to a casual dress, so they are definitely the more versatile option.
Either way you decide to go, always remember that having a well-rounded wardrobe is extremely important. You never know when you might need to dress up in order to fit into a particular situation or occasion.
Always remember that style is subjective and there are no hard and fast rules in fashion. Therefore, do not feel as though you have to follow these suggestions exactly. In fact, a great way to determine your personal style is to think of somebody who you consider fashionable and how they dress. Then replicate their look with your own spin on it by adding in your own personal touches.
Always remember that comfort is key. If you decide that you do not like a particular pair of dress oxfords, then do not feel obligated to wear them for long periods of time and make yourself uncomfortable just because they match your outfit.
Obviously, you can wear oxfords with a dress but it depends on the dress and the oxfords shoes. If you are wearing a plain white or black dress and if your oxford shoes are perfectly clean, that would look good. But what if the dress is patterned, an oxford pair would probably look silly.
I did my research and found that oxfords work well with some patterns, like stripes or checks for example. But then you have to keep in mind that the oxford shoe must be clean but not too clean to look good with a dress. You always have to pick colors that blend well so if you’re wearing a white dress and black shoes, avoid too much red for example. As I said before, oxfords look good only when paired with plain clothing, so I wouldn’t wear them with a printed dress but they can definitely be worn with stripes, checks and other patterns.
